Winter Warmers cancelled

posted 27 Oct 2011 00:51 by N D   [ updated 11 Jan 2012 11:07 ]

As many will know, Manor Farm Equestrian Centre has recently closed down. This means we had to move our Winter Warmers to another venue (Sedgeway EC, Witchford, Ely, Cambridgeshire, CB6 2HY, just off the A142).

Unfortunately, calamity has struck again, and Sedgeway has been quarantined.  As a result we have had to cancel our Winter Warmer series until further notice. Our apologies for this, but these events were beyond our control! We will let you know ASAP if we have managed to revive this series, which has proven popular in previous years.

Riding Club exams, and Style Jumping.

posted 12 Apr 2011 07:13 by N D

A memo from Becca Robinson:

I hope you are all well and have had a good few months riding or enjoyed your winter break. I have had some interest with the BRC Riding and Welfare Assessments but not enough to warrant training sessions. There will be a cost involved with the sessions which will be dependant upon numbers. If you are interested please get in touch with me becsrobinson@yahoo.co.uk or you can find on the HDRC Facebook Group.

As a reminder of the requirements and what it involves:
  • Seniors must be 18 years and over on the 1st January in the current year. Juniors should be between 8-17 years.
  • Each assessment will cost £10 as well as an additional fee to HDRC. Senior Riding 4 Assessment is likely to be in the region of £100 per candidate.
  • BRC assessments are compatible with the BHS exams. For both Seniors and Juniors there are 4 stages or levels. Once you pass one you move onto the next level or stage. If you pass Riding 3 with Jumping and Horse Welfare 3 you gain direct entry onto a BHS Stage 3 exam.
  • If you fail an assessment you must wait 3 months until you are able to re take the same exam.
  • In terms of dress code when taking the exams - Candidates should present themselves in a smart and tidy manner which is safe and practical. All candidates should show an understanding of safety requirements around horses. It is compulsory to wear a back protector when jumping and gloves when lunging. All hard hats must meet the current required standard.
For further information of each assessment please follow this link: https://www.bhs.org.uk/Riding/British_Riding_Clubs/BRC_Training_and_Exams.aspx

There are 2 exam dates confirmed so far this year:
  • 26th March 2011 Area 12 Cholwell EC - Exams taking place there will be Horse Welfare, Equitation and Horse Welfare Advisor.
  • 7-8th May 2011 Area 10 Priory Home Farm EC - Exams taking place there will be Style Jumping, Riding Test, Equation and Horse Welfare.
If you would like to take part in these please get in touch. If we have enough interest in our area we will be able to run these exams a little closer to home! Alternatively you may just want to learn more about your horses welfare and not take any exams - if this sounds like it may be something for you please let me know: Stable Management (or riding) sessions can be arranged, number permitting again a cost will be involved depending upon numbers.

Style Jumping

Have you ever wondered how/why you get the marks you do for style jumping? Would you like to know how to maximise your marks and understand what the judges are looking for? If you have answered yes to any of these questions then get in touch with me!! I will be organising an evening session with a qualified BRC Style Jumping Judge who will explain all of the above and help you to increase your marks at competitions. Dependent upon numbers will be dependant upon the cost of this session.
